James, I think you will probably find the pictures on the Diving World website were for illustration purposes only as it wasn't finished when the website was done. We should have been on Blue Pearl in April but were switched to another (which was a great week).

Can accept that the photo`s were for illustration only, after all who ever accused a holiday brochure of accuracy. Just that on board things didnt feel `right`, engines, gennies and desalination were all new, top side superstructure was all starting to split and open at the seams, deck was good and freshly caulked, from in the water the hull didnt look anywhere near as fresh as I would of thought a six month old boat should. the props and rudders were `used` the zincs looked pretty clean. If it was `new` I think it was going down hill very quick, the seagull that explorers use is a cheap boat, but not that much worse than the blue pearl. The advertised dvd`s in rooms did not exist and as for the E6 facilities. Yeah right, good job I`m still on C41. I still had a good trip and would recommend the boat, just take the blurb with a hefty pinch of salt and bear in mind that it has a fairly flat bottom, minimal draught, rolls like a bitch and easily swings the bow on a rough(5?) crossing. As for the dive guides, we didnt think much of them, they probably didnt think much of us. Especially when we gave the tip at the end of the week to the captain and crew, and told him to give Sam what he thought he was worth.

I've not done a full trip report, but there's a quick one with some pictures from our group here (the 80m bit is a joke before anyone gets worried!):

Nice reports Dave! Can the pic's be viewed any bigger than that at all?

Cheers

Afraid not m'dear. I believe our "techy lot" were talking about this in the pub the other night - my money is firmly on it never seeing the light of day
If any of them post up to photobox or wherever I'll drop you a line...

Liveaboards have a hard life and ones that win the 'best' award (was it the Oyster) can be terrible after just a few months.

You're right about the rolling though - a guy on our boat fell down the stairs and cracked his head open one night. In bed, it felt like we were about to capsize.

Have to say an excellent choice we went on this trip last August / September and we have Manta encounters in abundance.

Hi U2
Great post brought the trip flooding back. Our group of five all enjoyed the diving and the blue pearl however the domina was a diffrent story. All that I would add about the guides is the simple one ...not all people get on with everyone ALL of the time.Yes I know its there job etc etc but for those that are honest who doesnt have a bad day or week perhaps not just with the job but perhaps their partners!
Nikk
Ps hope to catch up with you another time you were great company.
