    Back in the briney :)

I had an extremely fun few dives today off of a small boat with some lovely people right next to one of my favorite places - the needles. It was a really nice sunny, flat calm day and just perfect for getting back in

Deepest dive was 8.5m and I saw some fish, some sea bed and there were some little rocky, weedy gullies I squeezed into to have a quick nosey in and it was a quick nosey cos we didnt take any dive gear Just a mask and fins and BT. I was a bit surprised that it was so wet (I don't know what I expected wearing a wetsuit) when I got in but it wasn't really cold once we got used to it.

I learnt some good breathing and relaxation exercises and really enjoyed just being underwater. HMS seabed has never been so exciting! It is a buzz when it appears out of the murk and you see how deep you are on just lung power. I could get into this freediving lark I think

I don't have any pics but I know a man who does who may be along to post some soon...

    Sounds good Naomi
    Kind of like my day.
Got up at daft o clock this morning, just couldn t sleep and made a snap decision to bundle a load of kit in the van and drive to Trefor in North Wales.
Got there for 7 30 ish, threw on some twin 7 s and a 5 mm wetsuit and jumped in.Pootled around for 82 minutes not getting below 6 m.
Saw tons of life then watched the rain hammering downon the surface from the seabed.
Came out, de kitted and still got home for midday.
Just in time for the wifes to do list.(ignored of course)
And to cap it all off, I ve got the July4th baseball day on ESPN.
    And wine

    Yay, Naomi, well done

Freediving - indeed, using a wetsuit - is not the spawn of the devil, it's great for seeing shallow stuff; and 8m dives are good going for inexperienced peeps. Really glad you had a good day. Sounds like you're coming back for more, too...

    8.5m David 8.5!!

I reckon I could get deeper than that too with some weight. I was rather buoyant I have no idea how much I would need though. Wouldn't want to take too much. It'd a be a bit of sh1tter to get to 20m and think yay 20m, now what, I am stuck here!

most full length wetsuits need between 2-6 kg too offset buoyancy (depending on thickness/ wearer) obviously a great chubby bloke needs more weight than a slim young lady but 2-6 is usually a good marker....

as for getting too 20 meters and being stuck.... you'll have too stick with it wouldn't want you using equipment too compensate ....

OK, OK, what difference does a foot make? (Bloke question I know...)

Er ... you had no weight? Amazing, even more well done! I've never managed anything useful (ie photography) in more than 7-10m in the UK. Yeah, buoyancy is kinda sensitive. Ideally, the less wetsuit the better - but it's not normally THAT warm in the UK. I've managed 16-18m in Barbados in shorts and nowt else - with extensive video use - but I couldn't do that in the UK.

Either way, you got wet, yay! My constant theme is "tailor your diving to what you enjoy" - and if you got a buzz out of 8m freediving that's very GR8 by me.

Oooh freediving in just swimmers in warm water! I want a go at that

It is a buzz but a different buzz to scuba. It was very liberating in more ways than one but kinda disappointing to have to go so soon. It was like, "oh look there's a fish" and then I have to go! I don't get to follow it or poke it or anything. On the plus side, kit faff is at a minimum, it is very cool just laying around at the surface trying not to think of anything, doing breathing exercises and being on my own in the water was coooool. Buddy was at the surface but he can't see me and I don't have to worry about him, he will be there when I go up so it's all good.
