Eccy delph may not rate as a brill dive site, but does however shine as a training area.

Firstly it is small and quiet, when you register you get a photo card, for £5 and then it's £5 for each visit. I believe that soon a "once a year paymet" for instructors is going to be introduced.

Access is good and underwater there are the usual items to generate interest for divers. Viz can get bad if there have been a few bottom kickers in, but low viz is a common aspect of UK diving, so learn to love it.

I've recorded just over 19m on a training dive, and is due to get deeper. At the east end there is a beach with level entry into a shallow water area and an area has been bricked off, near the main entry point, to provide a confined water training area.

They have a safety boat, O2, first aid, air @ £2.50, plus a little kitchen where you can get the usual diver fodder.
It is a site that is being developed and the water level is rising.

So, if there are any YD instructors who need a site, use this one, if only to give your students their first dives. It is only an hour away from me and makes a nice change from the long drive elsewhere.

I only went once and bethi enjoyed it becuase she got to feed the fish (with a big bucket of fish food way , not in the euthemistic, throwing up over the side of the boat way). The viz was lousy and the car park really muddy and horrid. Made a total mess of everything. Have they now invested in some hard core? if so I will give it a second chance.
Jules

did my first "open water" dives in eccy delph.... car parks improved - hard core and tarmac down now - even a barrier before you can get in! lots of trout, even spotted a few carp now... brilliant to train in - still using it to practice compass work - viz still poor - but good practice for uk conditions!! will always have a place in my heart - but when is Vivian opening up again!? Love that place - where i discovered the concept of visibility....!!!

Yeah, anyone know anything about Vivian? It was a perfect place for training and the viz was ok, I want to take Bethi in a dry suit there when we get back from HULL.

Jules I hope the hardcore refers to the gravel and brick type as if so they have covered over the Mud from which you may of been able to provide your own type of Hardcore , or what ever takes your fancy.
