Hi All,

I am off down to Plymouth next week, we can't get into our accomodation until 1900 sunday evening. The idea of a shore dive has therefore been floated. Does anyone know directions of how to get to the deepish shore dive in Plymouth people often talk about - sorry I can`t remember the name (I thought it was devils point until I saw the post about that in this forum).

I have heard you have to do it on slack too, is this the case?

We are a very experienced group, so there are no worries there. I expect we won`t even think about hitting the bottom of it.

Any info greatly appreciated!

Paul

I assume you mean Devils Point. I've not done it myself. Doug Parker is probably your man. Upto 60m is possible I believe.

Review of Devils Point

Sunday 27 July i hope.. Millbay pit is the one to go for.  High tide is 17:34.  I'll be there in a green escort van although i won't be doing the deep dive (too scared) but i can give you good directions and instructions for the dive.  You'll only get 47m though.  Devils point needs a bit of knowledge but it's not rocket science, an hour before high at this sight on springs but that isn't until Tuesday.

Hi Doug,

It will be sunday 3rd august. I have perhaps mis-led you slightly on our depth wishes. A 20m splash is absolutley fine - and after a 7 hour drive, probably better than computer bending before a weeks diving!

I have been doing a bit of research (though I haven't come accross millbay pit). I think that about 1600 on sunday will be an hour past low tide - assume that means diving devils point will be a no go. What is the situation with Millbay as far as tides go?

Thanks for the offer of advise if we had of been there tomorrow though!

Cheers,

Paul

Low water diving is not good on any of the sites.  Viz is down to less than a metre on low water in Millbay pit and Firestone bay and on springs you can't get up to the steps at Devils point, so you have to swim all the way round to the beach.  It was lovely in there today '26/7/03' , i only got to 25 metres but i'd forgotten how nice the shallow bit is.  We saw a few nudibranchs, cuttlefish and a good sized edible crab.  I might do Devils point tomorrow just to wind Mdemon up because he's hurt his back and can't lift his own gear.

I heard that!!!

Don't mock the afflicted!

By the way, did you get RB'd today, or did the Scarlet Pimpernel turn up?  No comms from him my end...

Back improving.  Will try and get down next week.  I'll wait until it's better, and then f*** it up all over again...   Still, the quack gave me loads of pills, so I might as well use 'em up!

I'll lift your gear out of the car for you, you cripple.  No i  got RB'd, Load of old nonsense about no signal at Hope (which is true).  Possibly Tuesday evening.  I dived anyway, that's the good thing about Firestone, their is always somebody to dive with.  My mate used my old backplate and harness set up, i knew once he'd had a go that he would be convinced, so we done the usual to reduce the stress on him.  Cuttle fish and thornback were yesterdays highlights although the viz was down to 4m.

Still haven't heard anything.  If i do get RB'd i'll just have to take the same attitude as everyone else and slag him for eternity.  Still, it hasn't happened yet. I'm not bothered because if he doesn't turn up, i'll just dive with somebody else or do it solo.  Wait till one of your silly little plastic clips breaks after you've paid 30 quid for the boat, then you'll see why a one piece harness makes sense.

I'm not worried about breaking sodding clips, that's what cable ties are for!  I'm more worried about breaking my damn back!!!

I have to say that if you do get RB'd I feel entitled to join you in slagging him to eternity - I spent ages trying to get communication sorted, directions etc!  No calls or text yet.  He never phones, he never writes...
