East Anglian Shore diving

Hi all

Does anyone know of a decent saltwater site between the thames and the wash that could be used for training dives in order to get my salt water weighting sorted?

I'd rather not jump off a boat until I've had a chance to do some simple shore dives with my new config. It doesn't have to be that interesting as long as the water is salty and the vis exists.

Cheers

Conor

I've been waiting for someone to post a reply on this one, some really interesting site to try out - guess that's why my experience is mainly puddle diving.

How about Wrabness its just up stream from the port of Harwich.
Our club dives there quite often for training.
Its in between Manningtree and Harwich.
Although we do have access to a bit of the beach which is private!
The waters are nice and clear and its got some life bets to have some boat cover in case the tide picks up!

Some people I believe dive under Clacton and Walton Pier
Just watch out for the Fisherman above.
Not sure that the vis will be any good though.

Problems is were every you shore dive around the essex coast line you will get covered in mud and loads of it.

I would say best bet is a drive to swanage and do the pier.
Also another club fav.

Conor,

I think we have had this conversation before, but you could try the Vera off of the beach at Cley-next-the-sea in Norfolk. If you park in the beach car park and walk up the shingle bank and look right you should see the remains sticking out of the water (unless you are there on an exceptionally high tide). Dive it on high or low water or 2.5 hrs before high/low. On spring tides you get quite a lot of drift, most of the time you get very little, but the above times are the main slack periods.
