| Ok, having totted up the amount I have spent on B&B's over the last few years, I have decided to brave it all and go camping. My first expedition will be to Swanage. Having looked through a myriad of information, there seems to be quite a few in the area, but having only stayed in one, once before and npt being able to remember it's name, I wondered if any of you could recommend a decent site? I don't ask for much.... reasonably short walk to the loo and not too far from the pier. Any ideas folks? ![]()

| I've stopped here, not really within walking distance of the pier but ....... Campsite Also, I can recommend a good B&B in Swanage, don't know about the diving though |

| Herston Yard Campsite - 01929 422932. It's undergone quite a few changes in the last couple of years and has lost it's rustic charm. It's on the outskirts of Swanage, near the Royal Oak pub, maybe 5 mins drive from the pier. We've also used Woody Hyde, which is okay, but I don't have a number for it. dan |

| Here is the info for Woodyhyde, http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/de...asp?revid=2614 I've used it several times and I think its probably the cheapest on the south coast but like most things you get what you pay for. Whilst I just want somewhere to stick my tent and a shower, other people may find this site a little basic! ie shower block is a little draughty, dish washing is outside etc etc. Just depends what you want. The main site on this link www.ukcampsite.co.uk is quite a useful one if you are looking for sites in various areas and one that I have used several times. | Thanks guys - green incoming! I have had a look at the websites, and made a few calls, and it looks like I just have to run up as early as I can and hope there is a spot of green on which to pitch. No-one seems to want to take a booking, so it is first come first served. The one I stayed in before (I remembered where it was) won't even talk on the phone as they have a central reservation number. The prices are mostly OK, but I think i will draw the line at paying £20 though, which is what one site quoted me. It is only a little tent!

| I've used Woodyhyde a few times; certainly it's one of the few places I've managed to get into at August Bank Holidays (arrive early Friday - they do first come first served until "full"...). They also charge "per person" not "per tent" so they're inexpensive for groups of single people, say, rather than families. And a free hot'n'cold running steam train through the site (well, along the edge). OK, it is a bit basic - but the situation's nice, and it's an easy and scenic walk into the pubs in Corfe! See also Norden Farm - another long-stop for busy weekends! Last edited by David P : 31-07-06 at 09:56 PM. |
