Recommendations for Scilly Isles?

Just starting to weigh up options for next year's UK dive trip and the Scillies are high up on the wish list, mainly for scenic diving.

Does anyone have recommendations for operators on the islands or boats that go across from the mainland (from Plymouth?) please?

Thanks
Joanne

I'd give Tim and Jo Alsop on St Martins a ring on 01726 422848

You don't have a lot of options in the islands, we were diving with Gary Fox from Dive Action at the weekend and someone was talking about going across with him.

I went in '96 and the diving was lovely, we had some non divers with us and our diving was mostly in the morning so the afternoons were free to be spent on trips and cream teas

I have heard you have to book maybe more than 12 months in advance to use one of the dayboats based there. I found it an expensive trip, B & B's aren't cheap and neither was eating out.

Maureen of Dart will do the Scillies from the mainland. I understand the Samuel Irvin will too - Links

The Alsops now run both of the Scillies based boats.

You might find that you can charter Endeavor from Plymouth for such a trip too.

O2 for Nitrox is not available on the islands. The only way to get nitrox or mixed gas is to use a mainland charter.

I was on Maureen of Dart a couple of weeks ago at the Scillies. Got all the diving in we had hoped for. Great set-up, great crew, get fed like kings and queens. I recommend Maureen of Dart:

Maureen - Skipper: Mike Rowley - Port: Dartmouth

We dived with Jo Allsop this summer, and we found her the the nicest skipper we have ever dived with in 10yrs.
I don't think anyone swore once on the boat all week!!!

Great dive briefs, the critical bits repeated for the more forgetful of us, lovely dives on terrific walls and there are plenty of good wrecks.

We stayed self catering on St Marys, but you do have to book WELL in advance for diving and accommodation.

My post dive routine was a few lovely local beers mid-afternoon, and there are some really nice eating out places for the evening.

It's a long way from Cumbria, but well worth the trip.

The 'squalor' of my last liveaboard elsewhere has put me right off them, and doing the day boat thing works really well in the Scillies

Cheers, Malcolm.

It certainly does. It is also a nice place for the non-diver too. Always good for extra brownie points.

scilly Isles

Give Jim Heslin a call, he knows the wrecks like the back of his hand.

I have used Jim for many years

Word of warning though if you dive the Cita be carefull of the front hatch, it chews fingers, if you find one of mine your welcome to it.
