Q. Why did the razorbill raise her bill?

A. So the sea urchin could see her chin!

I am sure there is a Dive Shop in North Berwick, which isn't that far away. I will try and dig out the details. We dropped cylinders off there on a Saturday eveing and picked them up later or even Sunday morning (we did give notice though). So I can't see Saturday being a problem.

We used these guys :::::::: Dive Safari Scotland :::::::::

But I also found this on yell

We have used the Dive Safari RHIB (lots) especially when we lived in Edinburgh. Gary who runs the business is quite arrogent, I found. the Last (and I stress Last) time we went into the shop, he was chatting to his mates (from his non affiliated dive club) and completely blanked us, even though we (Josie, Gary and I) were members of the same BSAC club!! We went in and he stayed sat down chatting.
We stood in the shop 10 mins waiting from him to at least acnowledge us, but he just carried on talking with his mates. We eventually left. A freind who is a divemaster with Daive Safari, said that several members of this non affiliated club mentioned amongst themselves how rude he seemed not even saying hello or welcoming us to his new shop.

Its funny as I actually recomended to my freind, who wanted to learn how to dive, not to wait until our club started Ocean Diver training in the autumn, but that he should go to Gary as he is a BSAC School, and Padi Instructor and would qualify in time to dive the same summer.

Our old club (www.divetech.org) have dived from his RHIB on many occasions. The club RHIB is even in North Berwick, but sometimes they can't be bothered with the hassle of using it and use Gary's RHIB as it saves them launching (which is free!!), even though Dive Safari's RHIB costs double that of the Culb RHIB.

I would not recomend him or his shop. Gary's customer service has left many Divers (who I know in the Edinburgh area) feeling his service is lacking.

Scouts Croft (Collingham nr St Abbs) is a much better, much freindlier shop, and even has facilities for 24 hour filling, (by buying a key from them, which you pay money onto in advance to get fills, similar to the old fuel keys used by truckers in Garages). Its not that far from Dunbar.

We dived or dove - whatever from North Berwick and wanted the closest place available WE didn't have a problem with Dive Safari, as mentioned the guy hung around for us and waited for our cylinders, (15 divers so say 30 fills) I cannot remember what time or day we picked them up, but in our experience the shop was helpful.

I agree with your comments re Southcroft, I guess its just down to the mileage and convenience factor.

What about these guys

Hi Jack,

I have dived on many occasions off Dunbar harbour end, even completeing many of the OD and SD training dives there. I've not seen a dive shop on the high street or the harbour. I know there is supposted to be a compressor on North Berwick Harbour but never saw that in operation either.

I'll follow the link off yell to see if I can see where the shop is in the town.

There is also a shop selling clean air and Nitrox in Eyemouth on the southside of the river, called Splash something??

As for Dive Safari, I can only guess it was one of the divemasters/shop workers in their spare time, who filled your cylinders? When we visited the shop it had only been open a few months. Perhaps Gary has taken advice from George on Customer Service??

Cheers,

Dave C

We have used the compressor before - but only when we dived from one of the Hardboat charters. So don't know how easy it is for adhoc / walk up fills.

Question AquaTrek

The only Hardboat operating out of the harbour is Aquatrek. He owns and runs the compressor and I have a feeling he provides fill as a service to his boat customers. I don't think he has it open to 'passing trade'. Of course I haven't lived there for a year now so my info is ~year old.

Seaquest in Dunbar, appears to be on the southside of the town, in what looks like the residential area. There is a trading estate on the south side as you enter Dunbar up Spott Road, from the A1, heading north from Torness Power Station but the address in your post is on the other side of the Edinburgh to London, East Coast mainline.
