I just heard on the radio that there were reports of the sea icing over on the south coast... but I can't find any reference to it online now.
Does anyone know if this really happened? Anyone dive today?

I doubt it, the water temp in Dover harbour was 6 degrees Sunday, off of Rye Bay/ Dungeness Point where we dived it was 8 Degrees. Air temp was around 0 with a F4 windchill dropping that.
The air temp dropped to -7 in Calais last night, this was quite warm to Paris which had -14![]()

There is ice in the harbour in Weymouth. The seagulls were standing on it today. And the edges of the Bristol Channel were frozen yesterday when I went over the bridge.

Not here it hasn't.
Water temperature would need to dip down to around -2C for ice to form and it never gets below about 7C here thanks to the North Atlantic Drift.
Radipole nature reserve which is fed by the River Wey was frozen over this morning and that feeds into the harbour but that is the nearest it gets to the sea.
-7 to -8 near me about 1am and there was ice on the riverbank of the teign at 8am this morn. i went past it on way to a job - bbrrrrrrrr!
going to try and go diving sunday, hope it's warmer then!!
It was -12 over Bodmin moor, and -9ish around where I live last night and for the last few days Padstow harbour has been frozen. The fresh water that comes into the harbour (only a small amount) starts the freezing by floating on the salt water, but once it starts gettting down to -2.5 when the air is -9 ain't that hard!
We had 6 degrees diving in Portland Harbour and on the Blackhawks bow in Feb a few years ago, but thats probably as cold as i have ever had on the South Coast and was all shallow wrecks at 14-20m.
Unfortunately i was diving with the Diving Dud as he got used to his Death Box and we did 60 min on all 4 dives that weekend
Top Tip:- Thats a damn good depth to stick to in the winter with an optimum Nitrox fill![]()
Deco is for fools in these temps
