First Attempts with Black and White

Hi All,

I've just got back the prints from my first attempt at using Black and White film for UW photos.

These were taken on a Sea&Sea MX-10. Not using a flash. Either just Natural Light, or Using a 50W Halogen lamp to illuminate.

Please have a look, and let me know what you think, also anyone got any tips?

Thanks

John

Hi

I liked picture 3. The focus seems a little soft. I usually find that B&W pics are better IMO when in sharper focus.

Everyone is different though so I'd say as long as you are happy then carry on. Photography, like art generally, is a personal thing.

Andy

The first one is kind of freaky - the shadows make it look like the diver is caught in the claw of a giant lobster!

(well, to me anyway. That might be the effect of too much caffeine though...)

I agree with you on this. I'm just not sure how to make it happen. This I suspect is one of the many Issues of having a fairly low-end camera.

Thanks
John

I can see what you mean. That one was taken on the Tapti. I was Inside, and the Diver was looking in through one of the holes. I'd hoped to get a bit more of the natural light from outside, but I think My torch over exposed the diver a bit.

Thanks
John

Last time I took the film camera in I had a play with a really high-ISO B&W film, think it was about 3200ASA - so pretty fast and nice and grainy as well.

These are a few of the results:
