I use the D70 and am very happy with it.

When I tested the Rebel I thought that the AF was much better than D70 but overall and the fact that I aleady owned Nik lenses made it a no brainer for me personally.

Having said that if I were to recomend a DSLR the selection of Nik lenses makes a very good case + the rumoured D90 with f100 AF system would be a true world beater.

Also every SLR and DSLR I have seen on my many trips has been Nik , go figure.

Cheers

Spoke to Ocean Optics today about a possible housing purchase for the D70. They had a subal housng with viewfinder magnifier and a couple of extra bits and pieces. A snip at £2700. [cough] [splutter]

Cheap at half the price

Remember if you want TTL with an Ike housing you have to use an Ike strobe.

My thoughts exactly. Ike housing may not have the robustness or longevity of an ally job but for the price you could buy 2 or three.

I told them my wife would shoot me - that's after hanging but before drawing and quartering. And then removal of all favours.

Agreed! I'm very reluctant to risk flooding my digital SLR which is why I've gone for the in between solution of the OlyC5060 which is sufficient for my underwater needs (no plans to become a pro UW photographer).

But rather than going for the 300D or spending a bomb on the 20d, why don't you go for the 10d. It's a superb camera, will be MORE than plenty for your needs, and they're coming right down in price now since the launch of the 20d, which we're all queuing up to get our mits on.
