'It Happens!

I have just come back from an underwater photo-shoot. It was shot in a pool with actors.

What could go wrong?

Everything!

It was a very cold day. The actors (paid by the hour) were delayed which cost valuable pool time too. My digital camera's batteries decided to go flat after the first exposure despite having just been charged so I had to climb out of the water and towel off.

That sorted, it then refused to preview and save so I had to climb out of the water and towel off... In the end I had to shoot blind.

But I had back-up so...

My film camera decided not to recognise its flashguns so I had to climb out of the water and towel off... I reconnected everything so that the camera seemed OK and then found that the flash would not fire so I got out of the water and towelled off... In the end, not knowing if I had full TTL on not, I had to shoot in manual-mode and bracket the exposures. (I await the results on Monday).

Was this the result of everything being really cold or was it just a bad day?

It's hard to concentrate on getting good pictures when you are fighting a battle with technology (underwater).

At one o'clock this morning I was still rinsing stuff and hanging it up to dry. I hate underwater photography!

On the bright side if you hadn't posted regarding your awful day I wouldn't have spent the last half hour enjoying the great pics on your site.

There's a moral there somewhere but I can't be arsed to work out what it is...

Yep - know how you feel. Had the same in the Maldives - set up the gear, tested, worked perfect. First dive got to 25m, loads of stuff, camera decides not to work at all. Spend most of dive sorting out - no joy. Surface interval, strip gear down, check, put back together, test, works great, next dive 15m, loads of stuff - camera wont work. Really, really pissed off!!

Turns out it was a loose battery connection that didnt like pressure.

Sorry JJJBBB - glad its not just me who has those days !!!!!

Hope the pics turn out

Thanks

John

Thanks for sharing that. Peversely it's nice for us budding amateurs to know that the days when nothing works properly aren't limited to us!

Makes you appreciate it all the more when your camera IS working properly when a pod of dolphins happens by!

Well, John, you've got to expect some pay-back for all those fantastic days you've spent in places like French Polynesia, Cocos Island, Galapagos, Micronesia etc etc that most of us are never going to get to.

My thought exactly...hence the comments about the quality of the office
