Sony Video Housings?

I have just invested in a Sony VX2100 (for work purposes only you understand ) and am looking for housing options. I have seen an Equinox housing at the show which looked quite good. Anyone used them or have any other ideas? Something which will go to 60 mtrs or deeper.

What Pierre said, not cheep tho, another good one is the Light and Motion Mako housing. I would advise against the HiD lights, the halogen ones provide greater flexibility for use in the UK. The HiD's are really only any good for clear-ish water.

I’ve not come across the Equinox housing but Cameras Underwater (http://www.camerasunderwater.co.uk/) do an Ikelite housing:

Can’t say anything about the Gates housing but I’ve used an Ikelite housing for a couple of years and had no trouble with it.

The Ike housing looks the best value, but is only rated to 60m. I looked at the Gates housing at the dive show, rated to 137m and a thing of beauty, but get ready to sell your car. As seen at the show, with ports, external monitor, good lights and appropriate battery packs, £9000. Eeek!

The Amphibico also looks nice, but is electronic. A bit neater, but more to go wrong?

If you go for one of the metal jobs, I honestly think it would be worth a cheap flight to the states to buy one. A few days in NYC, and still save a grand or more.

Whichever one you go for, I will be eternally jealous.

Thanks guys, I still like the equinox but the Gates looks not a lot more expensive and rated deeper, so it looks like I'll be getting that.

Anyone have any tips regarding ports and stuff as it doesn't come with any as standard?

The use of the camera will be allround, from shallow fishspotting to deeper wrecks.

You are very welcome. I would love to see the results with your set-up. Are you planning to use it abroad? If so, how are you going to work around the luggage allowance problem? I think the gates housing weighs about 6.5kg without ports or camera.

Just pay the extra if I have to. I'm not absolutely positive but they don't usually care too much about photography kit, unless its a bit OTT anyway! As long as it can fit in an overhead locker. The PITA is carrying it in the first place, nowadays I try not to have hand luggage, but with this I'll have to.

I carry my L&M Mako in a pelican on aircraft and haven't had a problem, not sure what the weight is but it is easily over 6kg.
