| Hi Where are you getting the HIDs from Mark? So far I've used Power Director which is pretty easy to use, and comparable to Pinnacle studio, but recently started playing with Adobe Premier Pro which is a bit scary Ensure you can output the video to MPeg 4 for internet use, MPeg 2 for DVD. Don't apply any of these compressions on the video capture though, leave it as DV-25 or whatever the standard is, but its usually DV-25. I too, use a PC setup but use an Athlon 64 bit jobbie. Hard drives are most important though and its worth looking at Serial ATA as they have slightly better bandwidth, make sure the drives are 7200 rpm too. Welcome to a whole new world of acronyms Andy |

| I wasn't going to bite, but... "OK, I shall say this once, and once only. I hate Macs because of the misconceptions that surround them. I have nothing against them as such, but here more cr*p from people about there so called mystical graphics abilities. Bear in mind, I am in the industry." I wasn’t going to respond but hey, I’ll bite… The point I was making was about ease of use and quality of editing software available. I’m not, in the end, interested in configuring a computer or buying software if I can avoid it. Particularly to edit my holiday films or another pike feature from Stoney or somewhere. I just want stuff to work. Apple have been awful at times in the past (and have treated their longtime customers badly – often! So believe me - I’ve got no axe to grind on their behalf) but I think what Apple are doing with video at the moment is great. It’s nothing to do with mystical abilities – just a range of really great well designed apps with a clear upgrade path as you want more features. (iMovie and iDVD initially come free with a Mac). I think Adobe Premiere has died on the Mac now because of Final Cut. Apple are really carving into the video market. You got a range of apps for whatever level you want – iMovie > Final Cut Express > Final Cut Pro. (all now High Def.) You’ve also then got iDVD > DVD Studio Pro for making DVDs plus Shake etc I’m really impressed with both with iMovie and Final Cut Express and I’d still suggest to people here they should take a look at them. As I said before if you’ve got a PC then you’re probably not going to interested in the above but bear in mind soon the entry level iMac is going to be around the £300 mark so that might help Apple a lot. Regards Jeremy PS: (I too, am in the "industry" and own PCs as well) |
