Hows this in colour, I prefer the B&W.

For what it is worth. I run a red correction, then use a high pass filter to create the effect. You can run an unsharp mask to get a more "grainy" effect as in the b&w version, but the bottom right just went smooth due to the lack of detail in the file.

Sadly you can make out the artifacts from the .jpg compression, but hopefully it will give you guy's something else to play with.

Oh yeh, just so you know, I do this for a living.

The thing behind your coral outcrop is distracting.

The detail in the foreground is very good tho.

I much prefer some / most of your other shots.
Heh, don't be sorry. I did ask for honest opinions. You said just about the same as Kate did. She thought it bland. I also thought there's something fishy about the whole composition, hence me posting it here. Having said that the "artificial" feel is also the part that appeals to me in this pic. Unfortunately at this time my "poseur" Eskil was getting rather impatience (read low on air) since it was his second dive in 6 years, the first one being two days ago. So I didn't get any other chances, just shot from the hip while he ascended out of sight so I had to fin after him.
No doubt, getting good buddies with torches and patience is rather difficult. Fortunately my friend Espen is getting there. Just have to get him a torch.

Thanks for feedback Tim,

Kyrre

Thanks for the effort Andy. As you said, there's not much to work on with the 72dpi 60% jaypegged pics so if you want to play more I'd be happy to send you the raw file. Just PM me your addy. The pic is about 5mb.

Very atmospheric as said already, and better than most of my stuff I may add, but it just doesn't do it for me. It's the kind I delete because I rekon I'll never look at it again, it will always just be skipped over.

Sorry, but I agree with Tim. It's technically not very good and I don't think it's particularly artistic. You can do a lot better, Kyrre!

Hi Kyrre

I do like it but I am not sure why and it is kind of atmospheric. I do like the composition of something in the foreground with a diver in the back ground. As tim says I think having the diver holding a torch would give it more interest.
I struggle taking pictures in poor viz and it loads better than anything I have taken recently.

hope the viz is better than that when we come to Norway in June!

You could have used a very wide angle lens to get less suspension between you and the subject....unless of course you really wanted the soft haze effect
