Don't get many dives in... but here are pics from one.

Me and two buddies took the club boat out to one of the nearest skerries to go wolf-fish-hunting. That is, I went in for the photos, they did the slaughtering.
I just can't get this C5060 to work with just the Dragonsub luxeon. it should give sufficient light but it doesn't. Grrr. So I had to do with a a few internal flash pics when I found a nice looking Anglerfish.

Here's Espen getting ready to jump in.

The anglerfish posing away.

Mighty satisfied divers on the way home. Kim in front and Espen driving.

Good to hear from you Kyrre.

Struggling with the camera? That I guess is lack of practice - the price of fatherhood! No doubt she's worth every bit of the sacrifice - but are we going to see a bit more from you over the Summer perhaps?

Cheers guys,

Mark, you'll probably see less and less from me for a while now. We're about to move house this summer, all the way down to Stavanger, so I suspect there won't be much time for diving until we're well established in the south.
It's a rather complex affaire since we've got a new minidiver on the way due in September, I don't have a job yet though Kate's got one. Things will sort out but meanwhile the days are filled with house-stuff... sigh.

Guess that's what it means to be a grown-up.

Kyrre

Nice photos, Kyrre. I really like the first one - despite the trident!

That Anglerfish is stunning, so beautiful aren't they?

They are rated at the highest risk for unsustainable fishing though are on the "Good Fish Guide" "DO NOT EAT" list, Rob.

Quote:
BIOLOGY
Anglerfish are so called because they possess a fishing lure at the tip of a specially modified dorsal ray with which they can entice prey. They are a long-lived species. Females mature at 9-11 years at about 70cm. Males at around 6 years at 50cms. Females can attain a length of 2m and a weight of 40 kgs. Males rarely grow beyond 1m. Angerfish spawn in spring and early summer in deep water down to 1,000 metres. Eggs are released in a buoyant, gelatinous ribbon or 'egg veil' that may measure more than 10m in length. Anglerfish are also found in coastal waters. 2 species occur in most areas, L.picatorius (white) and L.budegassa (black-bellied), although catches are almost exclusively of the former.
ADVICE
Monkfish are a long-lived species found in both shallow and deep waters. The state of stocks are generally unknown or at risk of being harvested unsustainably. Furthermore there are no adequate measures in place for their sustainable management. For example, no size restrictions on landings (due to large head size and only tail being of commercial value). Therefore huge quantities of fish landed are immature (females mature at 70cm, males at 50cm) or discarded at sea. Avoid eating.
EDIT: Just read the new news Kyrre - Congratulations to you, and Kate, and to little Frid! So more baby photos than dive photos next year then

Good to see some of your pics again Kyrre, I do like the diver-hunter one.

I had heard that another mini-diver was on the was. Congratulations.

And a big move too. Good luck on the job front.

Adrian

Nice pictures of the "breflabb", Kyrre! Congratulations on the minidiver-in-the-making! I look forward to seeing some pics from Stavanger waters in due course. The diving in that part of Norway is said to be very good, so don't wait too long to try it out.

Does the Pope shit in the woods?

I shall be jumping in the moment I get down there. Okay, maybe not immediate immersion but there'll certainly be some diving to be done in the time to come. Once we get settled in.

As for Anglerfish info, Lou, the article isn't completely correct. A female Anglerfish of 69 kg was caught in Bergen, with 22 kg of roe in it. Still, without the eggs, it would be 45 kg.
This one weighed 57 kg after it'd been gutted...

If spearfishing anglerfish you should only go for the really big one, that is true. As is true when it comes to wolffish. They're not "spawnable" until they're 4-5 kg, so they should be given the opportunity to breed a few years before the "sting" is administered.
Just had some lovely Wolffish this afternoon by the way.

I've packed away all my hobbythings since we're selling the house so there's a chance there'll be some diving done in the time to come after all I just found out. Fingers crossed.

Btw, this picture didn't quite make it due to water on the lens :-(
