settings for ys90 auto duo

can anyone help. i have added a ys90 auto duo to my sony P12 and i thought that i would have to use the fibre optic cable for it to work. I have tested the strobe on land and it works both with and without the fibre optic cable. what i would like to know is, am i getting a different kind of output from my strobe with the cable. or do i need to use the fibre optic for certain situations. many thanks

As far as I am aware the duo range have a slave sensor built in which effectively dose the same job as the cable.
HTH,
Cheers,
Paul.

thanks for a speedy reply. there is a sensor at the bottom of the strobe so i guess the strobe is getting triggered via this. will the photos be affected by the cameras built in strobe though. i suppose it is a matter of try and see. if i was using the fibre optic then the built in strobe of the camera would be covered with the black out velcro. so it would only be the ys90 light i n the photos.

It is better to use the fibre optic and blank out the strobe on the camera. The camera strobe will give you backscatter and more likely over expose the image with the 2 flashes combined.

You have control over the external flash and can vary its output, you have no control over the internal flash.
