Strobe for Olympus Mju 500?

Hi. Some time ago I bought a mju 500 for happy snapping and then recently I bought an under-water housing for it (PT-026)...

This evening I've been playing about with it in the swimming pool... I was surprised how successful it was but got the expected problems of back-scatter off all the crud in the water and not enough light... So, not much prospect of good pics in the sea.

Clearly I need some sort of flash gun for it to increase the candle-power and get the light source away from the lens, but which one? A quick web-search shows that there are all shapes and sizes and they all seem very expensive! Suggestions / recommendations?

It's not something I know anything about.

Please be gentle as I'm not technically inclined and this looks as if it could get very technical very fast.

Thanks,

M

Fuji make a slave strobe, including an arm and tray for about £130, it's what I use. If you look at my pics you can get an idea of how well it works.
I did also buy the fibre optic cable, which blocks out the existing strobe and triggers the remote strobe.

I think this is the cheapest setup out there, the arm isn't long but it's a good start.

Hi Okeanos. I've enjoyed having a look through your photos and will look into the Fuji option. Certainly cheaper than some of the things I've seen on the web so far! Kind regards, M.

Firstly im no expert having only brought my UW camera last year but and a big but it is, i tried to use my Mju600 in the pool and local lake but was disappointed at the results due to using the internal flash.

I have since invested in the Epoque ES-230DS this made a big difference to the shots they were crisper and i got many more good ones for the effort

Thanks Ron. I've just had a rummage on the net and the Epoque ES-230DS certainly looks suitable but I'm a bit price sensitive... Thick end of £300 without any bracketry and sundries...

I'm going to wait until the end of the month and see how the bank account is looking following pay day... If I can afford it I'll go for the more powerful strobe.

I'll let you know what I end up with.

Cheers,

M.
