YD Image Gallery Changes

I would like to amend the way the Image Gallery works and get some feedback from those who use the gallery before changing it.

Currently we have a number of sections with the top photos for each section appearing on the main page. I would like to removed the sections and allow users to search for what they want by searching the keywords.

The upshot of this will be the main page will have the best photos, YDrs, can choose what keywords they want when filtering rather than having to navigate the categories which people dont use anyway.

This will improve the viewing experience and provide better promotion of the best YDr photos. We have currently about 1500 photos from over a hundred members and need to think about how this will work as the gallery grows.

If there are no objections I would like to increase the width of the gallery, remove the fixed categories and add more room for new photos on the main page.

Alan - the most useful part is "most recent photos" - please don't lose that.

I want to make "most recent photos bigger", with 2-3 rows of most recent and the rest under 1 Category. So new photos can be be seen for longer.

Dont know if this is within your remit Alan but it would be useful to be able to link directly to a members gallers from the drop down menu you get when clicking on a username in the forum.

Would save time when someone posts a "see my gallery for photos" type post.

It all sounds good to me, especially the search feature and the view my gallery tab on the YD username within the forum.

Its getting a bit like Tesco's though, keep moving things around to make people look further.

Things need to evolve and this looks a good move.

Sound like it could be good - especially making the recent pics prominent for longer. I often miss some if I am away a few days.

Would this also be a good time to suggest again a link from the gallery pics back to the members profile so that you can PM them should you want to ask a question or make a comment. Because of the size of the membership its very tedious having to go to the member list and find them.

i always head for the gallery when i am on YD and have a good look around. Having a larger " most recent " is tops for me. !!!!!!

I'd definitely agree that enlarging and keeping the most recent picstures is a good idea.
Perhaps also a most often viewed section to "showcase" the most popular pictures as well ? That could just be a very small section...

sounds good to me Alan, you're right the categories don't work/get used anyway, so more more recent is the way...
