This is a really exciting opportunity and I think that it's a winner.

Obviously there are a lot of dubious people out there and I appreciate their reasons. What would be constructive though is for anyone who thinks that magazines in the UK are failing, to actually give their opinions on why this is. Maybe then Simon could actually make a positive impact on the market.

Congrats Simon,

Kitkat xx

That would be directly at me then.

Dive magazines in the UK are failing, they are failing to meet the demands of UK divers. The content is poor especially the BSAC magazine, Diver is a little better. If I didn't get the BSAC one free with my membership I certainly wouldn't subscribe for that matter my renewal has just come through from Diver and I don't think I will be renewing that one either.

Normally they both appear on the mat, I take the shrink wrap off flick through and that's it, less than 5mins of content in both of them.

There have been the same old articles for years, same old equipment reviews which I doubt many people read anyway. I bet I am not the only person who has never bought one item of dive kit which has been reviewed, based on what has been written.

Aimed loosely at you Fiona, sorry!!

But I think that you bring up a really valid point. A huge portion of the dive community agrees with you, including myself. I always feel like there are too many technical diving articles. & I also agree about the kit reviews.

I think that the information that you've just given though is so valuable, it is important to know how you think they could be better. But I just wanted to make the point before he gets lots of responses without any justification. Afterall, for Simon to succeed and produce a quality magazine that you would want to read, he needs to know what you want to read about.

thanks for the reply, sorry if you thought I was being rude.

Kitkat xx

Thanks for your comments Katy and I hope that Fiona realises that all I am trying to do is the best that I can with this, given the infancy of it all at this point. I also tend to think the magazine world does need to respond to what people need in a magazine, and not what they want in a magazine for it to work properly, although something that Diver is doing right is selling 40,000 copies per month, and one can only assume that is because people are buying it (like me...). Why they buy it is another issue...me...I like the pictures!

Not necessarily true, we are creatures of habit. We subscribe because it's the only thing out there, however I won't be this time

Simon, I wish you luck I honestly do. (especially since you work for a Manchester hotel and I work in Manchester - who said there was no such thing as a free lunch )
