I need advice!!!!

this might be opening a can of worms, and cause a few arguments, but I need help in choosing a basic digital set up. Ideally I want to spend about £400 but I could stretch to £500 if it's really good.

I just wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions? I've spent ages trying to find one on the internet but i'm getting confused with them all.

i've given up with trying to find a housing for the camera i've got.

Olympus

There are a number of olympus digitals - with housings - in your price bracket. I've recently purchased a mju 720 from Cameras Underwater. I previously had a mju 500. If you give them a call I'm sure any of the underwater photography specialist shops would be happy to talk you through the options - sometimes talking to a real person makes a decision easier than looking on the internet!!

Underwater camera advice.

Have a chat to the folks at Cameras Underwater. They've always been really helpful when I've dealt with them.

Keith.

Ditto that for cameras underwater.

I have dealt with them a few times, and they have always helped me with the best option for me, rather than the one which will make them the most money.

Except when i bought a strobe. The guy said... 'peice of advice... get rechargeable batteries'. The only AA rechargeable batteries I can find are 1.2v and it needs 1.5v to work. But then, they didn't sell me the batteries!

Luton Cameras without a doubt...

not had good service so far from cameras underwater, asked them question about strobe, they told me what I could read on the website myself, when I then probed more he did not have a clue...

hmmm

but luton cameras... bought from them twice, excellent service, superb prices... cant fault them

I was looking at the Fuji F11. But ended up buying a Fuji F30. Haven't got it wet yet but it looks good & works well on land.

Camera + housing

I have a Canon Ixus 7.1 mega pixal and 40m rated housing. I think I got them from Amazon.
Not sure how much I paid for the camera but the housing was £120.
I find it easy to use and it has a underwater mode that puts red back into the pic! See pics below one in normal and the other in underwater mode!

Ali

That seems rather high? Sanyo has just developed a new rechargeable battery:

SANYO eneloop | Ready to use Rechargeable Battery - The only battery you will ever need: Home

that I am pretty keen on but that also is only 1.2v. I would have thought that, given this is the "standard", manufacturers would build to that standard.

Cheers,

Christian

Before you totally give yp on your current camera, have you been to:

digideep.com :: list of all underwater housings suitable for digital photography and videography...

where, theoretically at least, you can check whether there in fact is a housing for your camera.

Cheers,

Christian

Keith.
I could agree more. I had a problem when buying my video and housing (didn't know what the hell I was talking about or doing) and I called and spoke to them and have now got a camera setup that has served me very well for nearly two years and still going strong. The guys there are seriously into helping you.
