One of the things that you need to check is whether the software on the camera can take the 1GB cards if it is a new camera then you shouldn't have a problem, as regards the write speeds the 1GB M's came out before the H's so I would think the H will have the faster write speed. I'm not entirely sure what the other differences are. If I was you I'd look at Computer Memory and Laptop Memory :: Offtek - The Memory Superstore :: Offtek.co.uk | as they do cheap cards and have quite a range. HTH

| From the Olympus website The 5050 is compatible with: Any sort of xD card - but only up to 512Mb CF up to 1Gb So it does not matter if you use "old" xD or type H/M (H are the higher write speed), so long as it is not more than 512Mb. 7 Day Shop do good prices on memory cards. Dom

| morning helen.. have got the same camera as yourself and took it for its 1st sea trials last week with a new 1gb sandisk extreme 3 cf card works very well (about 30 odd quid from 7day shop) some one did tell me there are fakes out there so dont be seduced by mega cheap deals!! hope this helps... |

| I have a 5050 as well I found the xd cards just too slow to use, as I tend to take everything in raw format when underwater. By the time xd has finished writing a raw file, anything else you wanted to photograph has long since bu66ered off! In my experience, even cheap cf cards are much faster than xd, although I leave the xd in the 5050's slot as well, just in case I run out of 1gb's worth of cf space during the dive - it has happened! I havent found that much difference between an expensive cf and a cheap one, a lot of the time it depends on the camera rather than the stated speed of the card. John R |
