Thanks. TIFFs it is. Have some 3000 slides to do... This will take some time! Well the 'canned' dives as some advantages.

John. With your pics 'pre-digital' did you scanned them to save on disk? Wonder how long it takes for slides beginning to fade, the ones I'm doing are 15 years old and seems OK but can't trust my memory.

I have transparencies going back to 1970. I am told that CDs will definitely last for 10 years! I suppose ten years seems like a long time when you are 20.
Keep your trannies in a dry dark secure environment. Mine are in filing cabinets. All my later digital pictures are archived on Fuji Photo Discs that are meant to last. I guess they will last longer than I will now!

Photo-libraries now insist on at least 50mb CMYK file sizes. Good scanning takes time. Avoid cutting too much info away in Photoshop.

I still do some black & white developing by hand but harder to get the chemicals. I'm only 34! Talk about a revoulution in photography.

I've currently got one of these on the go it scans the pics as tifs which you can then batch convert to jpeg in paint shop, it does 35mm negatives as well as slides upto 6 at a time, it will also do aps films but you need to buy the adapter for those.
KONICA MINOLTA EUROPE: product

it says it's been discontinued but you can pick one up on ebay.

Funnily enough, it appears that in the far east there is a resurgence in interest in film cameras, and in Japan the price of good second-hand film cameras is climbing.
