Thumbs up Minolta Scan

I have used a Minolta Dimage 5400 elite for about two years now for didgitising slides and negatives, it works well but can be painfully slow, I have found though that the quality of matirial put through also has an effect on processing time ie; to dark takes a long time to process.
I still shoot on slide film using my old Nikon though I have a fairly good digital compact olympus 8080 and in truth at sensible resolutiions you can hardly tell the differance. Though I realy need to spend more time under water with the oly to get used to its functions and limitations, The view on the left is of John and will taken on a Nikon 35mm and digitised the one on the right was taken yesterday at Burnham Overy, with the oly 8080 the resolution and viewing on both is quite pleasing. Missed the storm today nevermind. Be another one along shortly

The cost of these things is dropping all the time I nearly bought one of those a couple of years back but got the minolta instead after reading a review in one of the photo journals. Perhapse the dive mags ought to run a series of articals on this subject, not so much the high end pro stuff, though the pictures are great. Just the average bits that most of us get involved with, and would like to learn more about.
Go on I dare you.

OK, it works for me now too. Se we're talking about approximately $1000 in the States and £1000 here in Sweden. Ouch!

But not so long ago the equivalent cost £20,000 in the UK! I think you will pay about £850 but then you will need to buy a computer (and a home and some electricity!)

Regards

I've already got those bits, which is probably why I can't afford an £850 scanner

The coolscan IV is slightly cheaper but still looking at some £450-£500, still a lot of dosh that could go into diving instead.
