Trying to add a sepia effect - advice needed

Took a few pics of the WWII wreck, the USS Emmons on Saturday. I'm trying to add a sepia effect to age it a little, and am not sure about the results. I've got a copy of the original pic, the automatic sepia pic and a sepia & grain effect added manually. Do the sepia ones look good, and if not, what am I doing wrong?

www.soldave.34sp.com/emmons.jpg - original pic

www.soldave.34sp.com/emmons1.jpg - auto sepia

www.soldave.34sp.com/emmons2.jpg - manual sepia & grain

I think this pic has the potential to be really good, and would appreciate any advice from you experts out there

I'm far from expert but I really like the manual sepia and grain. Lovely! (I couldn't open the auto sepia file)

Ooooo, I MUCH prefer the manual one. Very nice!

What did you use to do it? Are you a photoshop wizard?

Haha! I wish I knew 25% of what Photoshop could do. I followed this tutorial pretty much:

Excellent! Cheers!

I've got a similar technique for adding red back into pictures to dive them better colour...

Here's my interpretation.

PS CS2 using layers...

White vignette using a layer mask on a white layer, 50%ish opacity
Sepia Layer using Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer set by eye
Grain Layer - Noise filter applied to a black layer 20%ish opacity
Background - original photo

BTW - I prefer the manual version over the auto

Dom - that one looks really antique. Very nice. It gives a very different effect to my manual sepia one, but I like them both.

Hiya,

Had a play with my colour tutorial (whilst turning it into a macro)... Thought I'd share so you can see the difference it makes.

The colour effect looks pretty good. It's interesting how many impressions the picture can have depending on the colours used.

I haven't had a chance to look at changing colours yet as I've been looking at sepia, but it is something I'll spend some time on later.
