| Imported post Hi Mark - cant answer the direct question but..... Is the footage in digital - you may be able to `unfilter` with the appropriate software. Personally I dont go for filters at all - would rather rely on `natural lighting` provided with strobes/vidlites.

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>Hi Mark, I don't use any filters on anything less than 10m sometimes upto 15m if conditions are very good. I use lights for close up or the red filter over 10m/15m. Daz

| Imported post <font color='#000F22'>Ok I dont get it. Last year I wa on a Livaboard with a lady called Pat (Instructor down Wraysbury way) and she had a red filter on her sony housing. Her vidio looked great with loads of natral looking colour. My vidio shot at the same depth was very blue. Most dives were less than 30m sa average 20m but even the shalow depth footage on her camera didnt look red. I got a Hoya Red 25A 40.5s filter and my vidio was just red. It is a digital camra so I can probably edit it out but I would rather try an alternative in the future. Close ups with the 50W vidio lamp were OK but I would rather do the natural light thing. So if you use a filter what couler density / temperature thingy is it. MArk Chase

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>Hi Mark, Wish I could give you the full technical spiel on the red filter. Give Cameras underwater a ring, I know the filter has to be just so to avoid too much red or too little. I guess the white balance setting could affect it as well but I just use mine on auto. Daz Hang on I might just have something...... I'll get back to you.

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>OK I have had a quick scan through my video bible and they recommend UR Pro filters. A lot of the housings use UR pro filters as standard. (UR PRO CY for blue water and UR PRO GR for greenish water) It appears that UR PRO are a patented make of filters and seem to be very highly respected in the industry. http://www.urprofilters.com/index.html I also found the following info from my little underwater videography bible that might also be of assistance. Filter use at depth. Shallow water 15ft or less. Set the white balance for outdoors, do not use colour correction filter. Medium Depth. 15 to 60ft Set the white balance for outdoor and use filter. Below 60ft, Filter loses effectiveness, removing the filter increase increase the amount of light reaching the lens resulting in improved picture quality and increases depth of field by 25%. One other snippet from the book. Setting the white balance to outdoor setting in shallow water with the filter in place can make the pictures appear to reddish. Setting the white balance for indoor setting will reduce this effect..... So maybe you could check your white balance setting and try leaving it set on indoor to reduce the reddish tinge. I really hope this helps Mark. Daz
