I've got a similar model, the DC-800 housing for the Canon Ixus 400. This one is rated to 40m. I haven't used it beyond the range, but I have taken it to 20m with no problems. As I progress in depth for the Sports Diver qualification I intend to take it deeper.

Make sure you put silicon grease around the o-ring of the housing. You usually get a tube with the housing when you buy it. I didn't put any on at first and there was some seepage, but since I've been using the silicon it's been fine.

If in doubt, why not just take the housing down without the camera to test it out? I did this a couple of times - I just put a tissue inside the housing. If the tissue is dry when you come up, you're in business!

I insured my UW camera gear as an extension to my home contents policy with Direct line. I had to have `out of house losses` cover as well - all for the princly sum of £2 extra per month.

This includes camera/housing/strobe/lenses etc. make sure the cover also covers accidental loss. They eventually understood that if I had my arm bitten off by a shark and that the camera was in it then this would be an accident !!!!

<font color='#000F22'>Cheers for all your suggestions. I think a dip in Chepstow with camera and some tissue might be in order. If it's ok will try again to 40m.

Does anyone know if it's the pressure on the buttons or the seal. i.e can be taken beyond specified range as long as it's not used?

thx

gareth

<font color='#0000FF'>Word to the wise. Be very meticulous when cleaning your O ring and housing. &nbsp; My housing is rated to 70M but leaked at 4M through a bit of dirt. &nbsp;I called my dive to prevent further leaking and saved my camera. &nbsp;Always check for leaks as you descend, could save you a lot of money!
