"The thing" certainly is a collection of eggs, almost certainly nudibranch eggs, perhaps Spanish dancer eggs.

John,

thanks for that, no-one else I have shon it to knew what it was -  it almost makes up for the fact that I missed seeing the spanish dancer that everyone else saw on a night dive  

Julia,

you should be able to view full size images -  just click on the thumbnail then click the image - although for some reason they are not loading sometimes on my machine - some of the pics I uploaded the best quality images I could (1mb+), so perhaps they are just taking a bit too long to load and it's timing out

Off to Marsa Alam with my shiny new (ok second hand) Motormarine II next month - will share the results when I get back - hopefully they will be even better.
