Oly C50 and macro settings

I've got an Oly C50, which has a 'My Mode' option (for personalised settings). I've been trying to set this up for macro shots, and have put in the aperture/shutter/ISO values recommended in Michael Aw's book. However, my photos have been coming out very dark ie as if the flash and strobe haven't fired.

Scrolling through the 'My Mode' settings, there doesn't seem to be an option for auto flash, only slow flash and red-eye flash, neither of which are any good underwater.

At the moment, I've put the camera back onto Auto and will have to remember to press the macro and flash buttons every time I take a ruddy picture.

If anyone's got a similar camera set up for macro shots, please tell me your settings!

Hiya,

I've not got a similar camera but did an underwater digital photography course at the weekend. I would suggest try lowering the F-stop number a couple and seeing what effect that has.

Or you could try slowing the shutter speed a notch as this will also let more light through onto the sensor.

Thanks, Simon. I can't remember the settings the book recommended for macro shots. The problem seems to be in the My Mode setting, the flash doesn't fire immediately and automatically - therefore the strobe doesn't fire either. The two flash options available are hopeless for underwater shots as they're too slow.
