Photos from the underwater ruins of Yonaguni

Well as the title suggests really. The photos haven't come out as artistically as I would have liked, but you can pick out things well enough on them. Let me know what you think of the underwater ruins under the waves of one of Japan's tiny outlying islands. There's a full report on my trip and more detailed pictures/movies etc in my blog. See if you can spot the face etched into the rock in this first pic!

Thumbs up Interesting place...

I saw a documentary about this place. It looks like a nice dive. What's your opinion, man-made or natural?

I have to say that in my opinion the lines are too straight and the edges too sharp for it to be naturally occuring. The thing is, if it is all made by mother nature, for all of those natural phemonena to have occured within the same 150m squared area is something very special.

But for mine, it's man-made!

Not dived Yonaguni, though I have dived the 'cart ruts' off the coast of Malta that were included in the same programme as another example of this type of construction. My pics of them are on film, but they look very straight and sharp edged as well.

For the Maltese ruts I'd go with natural, and one day I'd love to dive Yonaguni!

Sorry, don't have a film scanner, but here's a link to the ruts above water on Malta, the pics they have are very similar to what I saw underwater off Ghar Lapsi.

Malta - cart ruts
