What battery's do you use, if it's standard ones look at the mA/h they are quoting. Rechargable AA's vary from 650 to 2800, obvoiusly the higher the better.

Try here 7dayshop.com - Online Store=

They're one of the cheapest

Back to the original question (if it's still relevant) I bought a Sea and Sea YS27 strobe for my digi compact. It's was fairly expensive (£309 with tray, arm, connector etc) but will upgrage to a Digi SLR slave strobe when necessary.

The results compared to my old fuji flash were amazing (check out the colours in my Maldives thread, very little if any photoshop done)

£250-£300 for an underwater strobe with arm and synch cable is cheap, I'm afraid .

Welcome to the wonderful world of underwater photography.

Oh, and if it's still relevant, I use an Epoque 150 DS with my compact. Cameras Underwater have them in a package with arm and fibre-optic cable for £225. It's not any better than the Sea&Sea, but I like mine and it's dead easy to use.

Fibre Optic

My Sea&Sea YS 25 uses fibre optic and this has a coiled section so could be positioned some way from the camera on an arm, but I think it's too flimsy a cable to use hand-held, and not sure how well the coil would re-shape if stretched far.

Alan James - For all you need in underwater photography

the strobe has made a big difference to my shots and there's much less Photoshopping required to balance the colour etc.
