If you're desperate to do underwater photography (and are new to photography) I would start with a cheap camera and housing first - we see some pretty good results here.

Exactly what I'm doing.

Would only be buying the 2nd hand package (if I can get it for a good price) to sell almost all of it.

I've got a Canon Digital ixus V2 at the moment that I've been using for the last 14 months or so and feel I've out grown it.

I'm planning to move up to the Fuji F30 next for underwater stuff as it's got much more manual control to allow me to continue to learn the effect of the controls underwater.

I just hope you can shift the D100 again. It's not great!
