You might do a lot worse than the Fuji F30. It comes in at about £350 with a housing. My brother bought one recently and got some good results for a first timer.

(they don't look quite so good after I reduced their quality, though)

Cheers, Chris

I'd second the Fuji F30. I did a underwater digital photo course with the man from fuji. He brought one along and there where other makes that people took to the course too. The F30 blow them out of the water. Which was depressing since on of the cameras was my Olympus. It's was that good I am still thinking of getting one.

Thanks, I've been looking at these Fugi Finepix F30 and 31 and they look pretty good and not too complicated.

Olympus customer care is rubbish (at least it is in MHO). First time one went wrong, they said I must have dropped it, (which I hadn't). So they could repair it for £120 but would not replace it. Second time, the camera was insured and it took over 3 months through Jessops insurance to get it replaced and also took about 20 odd phone calls to track it all over the country. I can't even be bothered with the hassle this time, I just won't get another one.

Hi

I've got a Canon S80 - pretty good quality pics, almost no shutter lag, has an auto setting and also an underwater one. Takes pretty good video too - you get 8 mins at max quality ( 1024 x something or the other) on a 1 gb card. The video looks great fullscreen on the computer monitor. The housing is good for 40m. It takes pretty good topside pics as well. I think it was about £400 inc the housing, but you may be able to get it for less now as it was a new model when I got mine.

Have also read good things about the Fuji F30 as well - haven't tried one though.

Jeff

I agree with Pete, I've got the Ixus 850 - takes cracking photos and good video as well and is very easy to use.

PV,

You MUST send a last letter/email of complaint to Olympus! You can't let girlkind down by not getting the last word!

I hope you gave Olympus a right mouthful when they accused you of dropping your camera! Also, a letter/email to their customer services explaining why, after 3 of their cameras you are buying something else.

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrllllllleeaaaaaassssseeeee don't just walk away without having a last go at them!

Mine was fine. Sent them an email and they told me to send it off. Back fixed in a fortnight. And I'd had it almost 2 years and the warranty was only 12 months.

Maybe I was just plain unlucky with my attempts to get the old ones fixed and/or replaced. I swore at the time I would never put myself through that again. I felt like a criminal trying to reason with the spotty youth and the officious manager in the shop. And to be told 2 weeks later by Olympus that they were going to charge me an arm and a leg to repair it (first one was only 1 week outside the guarantee) was enough to make my blood boil.

But I will take it back into Jessops and see what they come up with this time.

And I would still like a better camera.
