Oly c7070 strobe advice

OK, for those who know... bit of guidance.

I've got a C7070 with a PT27 housing (like a few people methinks) and having played around with a borrowed strobe on hols and had fun want to go the whole hog but ideally with TTL solution. To achieve this I think I've got two options:

Getting the Oly adaptor done by the german company then grabbing a few old Nikonos/Sea&Sea strobes from the net etc.

Buy a Ikelite housing (if I can find someone who'll sell as they're discontinued) and then a new ikelite strobe with TTL.

Only other option is to go back to the start.

As the German & Old Strobe solution seems much cheaper I guess I'd prefer that. Is my understanding correct? Can someone who's done this just give me the confidence it was the right decision.

I've done that with a 5060, which is very similar. The hard wired solution where you replace the Olympus flash port works well. I had problems with the older adapter which relied on sending an infra red signal through the case.

Thanks... I was hoping to get a 2nd hand Ikelite 5060/7070 but realised it was only a 5050... bugger!!!

So no problems with the 5060 solution then (no idea what the IR connector is as I can't find it anywhere!)

also... is the Sea & Sea solution better than the Nikonos solution with regards to the german adaptor?

Not sure if he still does it. Basically you strapped an adaptor to the outside of the housing, put another adaptor into the hotshoe on the camera and they communicated through the housing using infra-red.
My old setup is here: Camera Setup

I had a few problems with it. One of them was that it had its own battery, but the replacement bulkhead is much better and powered by the batteries in the strobe. I use a YS60S.

Took these Photo Gallery, Djibouti, East Africa
with it.

There is another option, and that is buy the Olympus flash and housing. I dived with someone in RSA that had a 5060 with the Olympus flash and the results weren't that bad. Although for the money, I would guess the other options are better. Might also be difficult getting the flash housing.
