Never heard of that being a problem, and not had it with mine. I guess if it is a problem its a tiny tiny proportion of the cameras out there.

And on the very very slim chance it happens to you, i've used Fuji customer services a couple of times now (one for a failed memory card, another because I got sand in my lens) and both times they've fixed everything free of charge and returned it the day after receiving it by special delivery. Can't ask much more than that (especially when it was my fault I got sand in the thing!)

See if they'll knock it down to£500 each if we get two?

There was no mention of 'purple anything" in the Diver mag review that rated the Fuji as the best (on average) compared to 3 other cameras. Having said that the review might have been done shortly after the camera was brought out and it was not known about then.

Hopefully JB will read the thread as he seems to be a 'diving shutterbug'.

If I were you I would ring FUJI UK's office and speak to their customer support section. In my experience they are really helpful; they loaned me a wide angle lens to try out with my FUJIFILM F5000 which I thought was above and beyond normal customer service.

I might ring them myself as I am considering getting the new model (the F51?).

I think you'll find you introduced his hairy parts whislt we, well me, were more interested in French Maid's outfits ............ still, Paul would probably look silly in one, so I won't mention the subject again.

I haven't read any of "these" because I wanted to rush back here to show I'm being serious now!

Bluetits, Titwarblers and Fruit Bats! It's me, with childish mind, what else would you expect?

Fair enough.

Fuji Sells hundreds of thousands of f30/31's. You've seen a reviews of a few problems. I've spent a lot of money on other cameras - they also get problems, often at the most inopportune moments. Fact is you can find problems with pretty much all cameras if you search hard enough.

Compacts are pretty much disposable these days. Buy it, use it. If it develops a fault and it's in warranty then you've not got a problem. If it's outside of warranty then ditch and get a replacement. If it's insured then drop in the sea - not that I'd do that (really)!

Oh, BTW, FUJI have a section where they offer repairs, returns etc for sale. I didn't think the prices were particularly cheap when I last checked but the items do come with a full warranty.

No purple problems with mine either...except of the Vonny kind, but that's just the camera being understandably confused with the rainbow of colours it's presented with when pointed in her direction underwater

And, just to proove the point, my D70 has just died (again) - looks like I'm in the market for a new body.

Sod's law that.
