That's lovely!

Can't wait to try my spanking new F31fd on Sunday - I have to read the manual this evening and work out the best setting for a murky Sunday in Plymouth Sound.

Any tips, anyone?

Take a dive slate down and white balance it against it

I know that's what you're supposed to do, but it just seems such a faff

It's easy, go into the settings and chose white balance. Take picture and it'll automatically do the white balance and tell you if it's good.

By the way, is it to cold to dive in a semi dry this time of the year?

Or point it skyward.

This may not work on a night dive

I'll give it a go.

I've put away my semi-dry until next spring, although the water temp here in Plymouth is still 14-15 degrees.

Mmmm...I tried that...and the pointing it at the surface trick to set manual white balance too and the resulting photos were quite dark. When I reverted back to auto white balance and the underwater mode, they were the usual green, but had much more detail visible when corrected with a graphics package to remove the green cast.

Probably operator error

I have a F31fd and have had no problems with it going purple, and this is even in the strong sunlight in Florida (on holiday). There is a small issue with purple contours in areas of high contrast but I have never seen a totally purple screen, I would suggest that maybe the reports were from uniquely faulty cameras.
