| I'm not necessarily in the know, but I think the answer is no - they are different connectors for a start. Problem with USB is the sustained data transfer rate. It can drop markedly if you have more than one USB peripheral attached. Firewire was designed to have a high data transfer consistently - which is what you want for transfer of DV. A PCI firewire card is less than a tenner (Amazon.co.uk: Max Value 3 Port IEEE 1394a PCI Card: Electronics & Photo) and that's what I had to put in my PC. Rob |

| Another option would be to add a USB video grabber, and play the video into it from the camera. Another possibilty might be to record the a/v out from the camera onto DVD using a DVD recorder, then rip the DVD on the PC. 'tho the best option would be firewire. ColinM

| USB and firewire are completely different standards, so you'll have to invest in a firewire card. If you're doing lots of video stuff then it'll be worth it, and as already indicated, they're not that expensive. Do a bit of research for recommendations on the quality of the devices first as some of the cheap and nasty ones don't fare too well for use with ipods etc. I have a firewire port on a SoundBlaster add-in card - however it's not called "Firewire" by windows, but something like "1394 interface" so have a look in your device manager settings to see if it's hiding there.

| Have a look at what they have to offer at Computer Music, Video Editing, Audio Computer They know their stuff. You will need a firewire port. J.
