I don't like places like Sea World or that god awful place Dolphinella in Sharm which Marine Connection campaigned extensively to press for the release of the Beluga whales.

Sea World keep Whale sharks and having seen these massive fish, how anyone can put them in a pool is beyond my comprehension, no wonder they keep dying.

Ahh. You didn't go to Skegness for your hols then. We stopped going there when I was 11, so that would have been 1972 latest. (Mother no doubt wished we'd stopped going in 1967).

Aged 11 or 10, you would have thought it was great. But that was then.

I just feel sorry for the dolphins, stuck in Skeggy all year round.

I was watching Long Way Round with Ewan MacGregor et al last night, with Ewan having a whinge that his Russian hosts, in the middle of the Siberian Taiga had shot a bear (worth a lot of money for it's skin). Unfortunately they have spent too much of the last century surviving their many misfortunes such as the Tsars, Stalin, the Soviets, Hitler, economic deprivation and straight misery to have the time to build up a lot of empathy for animals.

Although you/we might not like it these days, I defy anyone over the age of 40~45 to put their hands up and say that as a kid, they didn't enjoy dolphin shows/dolphinaria etc. Yeah we're all wise after the event but if we'd been born in a different place.....

And while we're about it, hands up who hasn't been to a zoo in the last 10-20 years or so and paid money to look at big cats, elephants, chimps, gorillas, polar bears, seals etc in captivity. (Actually me.....as there are no zoos containing non-native wildlife on my island but that's beside the point)

What's the difference? He who is without sin etc.

Would we hit someone with a shitload of reds because they posted a pic of their day out with the kids at Whipsnade?
Hi Richard, understand all you have said, however, this guy seems a far cry from a chap scratching a living in the arctic wastes of Siberia.

I cannot imagine after diving in some of the locations that have that they are not aware of some public opinon on dolpinarium.

I also remember my first trip to Windsor safari park. Seeing all the miniature crosses of dead dolphins in the central reservation had a profound effect on me. It took the gloss of the visit. Suffice to say I never returned, and was very happy when it closed due to financial reasons. Ps I'm 40 but sssh.

Re hitting the chap with red, well he is very aware of some peoples attitude to dolpinariums. Who knows he may even remove his silly video from his website.

Well must dash need to add croutons to my fin soup.

Ian

Hi guys, I'm new here and i fully agree with your opinion on the capture of wild dolphins, and any other animals which are used for entertainment.

But - I am Russian, and according to you, a 'tough person'. This is not so.
Please do not generalise Russian people as 'tough'. We are not all the same, and many, including me, think about nature the same way you do.
Thank you for your understanding

By the numerous requests of our British underwater friends, video with dolphins was successfully deleted from the site.
