I can't comment about underwater photos yet but have used my F50 for the last 2 weeks on Holiday in Austria on most modes ( landscape ,snow ,Night, museum, text Normal & full auto ) & absolutely love it .
Some of the night time shots are amazingly clear ,actually looks clearer than looking at it with the naked eye , photo's of fireworks are good as well .
From previous threads I don't think that most of us would notice any difference between the quality on the f30 or the f50 .
Just a thing that I was doing while away :- if you are in a museum & taking pictures ,take a picture of the item then change to "text" mode & take a pic of the text beside the item .Then in years to come you can look at the picture & text shot & know what it was !

I don't think the F50s are setup for RAW format: that's the reason I wouldn't get one.

fd31 v fd50

fd31 has better low light performace over fd50 making it my choice considering Irish water conditions ( i.e sometimes I feel I should forget the torch and dive with a white stick instead ! )
