PS there are no quick-fixes. Everything you add has to be learnt
Quick may not be the right word how about non-photographer buddy friendly? By that i mean less hanging around for thm while i mess about with camera settings of course i could end up on a boat full of like minded people and learn loads

Get a new buddy or dive solo If divers are selfish, then underwater photographers are the most selfish of all !

if you can shoot in raw and then adjust the white balance in your raw convertor. i find the results from this quite good. adjust the levels and hey presto !

heres a shot taken in raw, no strobes or filter. white balanced in post edit program and adjusted the levels.

i will try and post the original also so you can see before and after.

Getting a photofriendly buddy is the answer unfortunately. Either get your buddy involved i n the process by being a life spotter/ torch pointer or get him/her a camera... or dump him/her and get one with a camera.

lol I am working on expanding the number of potential buddies with cameras. It's just that if i have a week off work when no one else does I wont let that stop me jetting off to the red sea on my own sometimes that means getting buddied with non photographers. I have had mixed fortunes that way I had a german buddy once who was amazing at spotting lots of interesting stuff, but then i have had some one who vanishes in a second if i stop to take a shot.

Then do a deal with your buddy, on each day one dive is pure photography, the other is snappy - and then they can have your photos. That can work wonders.

If you are really flush then buy a guide!

HI,
Magic filters are the work of Dr Alex Mustard & Peter Rowlands both masters
in under water photography. I have & use these filters with natural light resetting
W/B in the 10/15m range these help to get better blues & colour saturation.
They do have a max working depth which is about 18/20m as they need the natural light. I think they have their place & are a great way of using the availble
light.
Andy

yes, i think that's a reasonable summary and certainly my best results have been in that area. They are magic but not miraculous!
