| Just a few further thoughts ... First, if spending money is involved, I keep arguing that Photoshop Elements, at £50 or so, does all of what 98% of users are ever going to want; and the current version should (I presume) support the G9. And it's always worth considering Adobe Lightroom... previous discussions here refer. Second, it is true that the RAW plugin for PSE does less than the plugin for PSCS3. But I suspect that again, for most people PSE would suffice. Third, the biggest strength of RAW conversion lies in areas like colour balance (and preserving the very finest image detail). Whilst you can (of course) make exposure corrections, and it's bound to better doing so in RAW than in JPEG, don't imagine it's a magic cure. There's still no substitute for getting the right amount of light onto the sensors, if it's quality you're after. But if you want to see a quick demo of the benefits of RAW, see White Balance Follies. Fourth (and I'm quoting from The Luminous Landscape) If you are not using Photoshop CS3, which is needed to run the latest version of Camera Raw, and which offers support for a slew of new cameras, don't despair. Just download the latest Adobe DNG converter, batch run your raw files through it, and then load them into your old version of Camera Raw and Photoshop.

Photo-Freeware.net - RAW Shooter Essentials Download which is freeware and does a pretty workmanlike job - I believe Adobe bought it out, but at the moment it's still available out there... Cheers Oddfish |

However, I agree that Elements would be enough for most purposes, or Oddfish's suggestion. Steve |
