possibly a stupid question but its never stopped me before... If you're using a strobe and your compact camrera is set in manual mode do you still need to set your white balance manually ?

No, set it to flash WB (it will probably do it automatically). Use manual WB for natural/available light. If you set manual white balance at depth and use the flash you will end up with a very red image.
Rob

PS there are no stupid questions

And herein lies the problem I have trying to do deep exposures with ambient light but wanting to illuminate the diver's face. Thank god for digital!! Although, even the preview screen makes it hard as what you think is over-red compensated, is just right.

As Rob said previously, practice, practice & practice!!

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

I tried to keep things simple and not go into the complexities of mixed light sources - that's a huge learning curve all of it's own! It's something I find much easier to do with RAW and post WB adjustment than with a Jpeg.

As an aside, I had real problems last year as I tried to balance natural light, an Ikelite DS-51 and DS-125 (which have quite different temperatures) - nightmare. I gave up and bought a second 125, much less faff in processing.

I am by no means an expert, but a couple of guys from YD gave me some great photoshop tips.

I managed to "share" a copy of Adobe Photo shop 7, and with an underwater correction sequence of steps the results were great.

I had a mess with one of your shots hope you dont mind, if you PM me I may be able assist you

The quality is reduced a bit as i had to save it low quality..

Posted on here as "wanted". Carly very kindly offered to sell me hers for a bargain price as she had moved to a different camera.

I was looking on fleabay before that and considering importing one from the states. I think canon only made the ixus 750 for a few months before briningout the ixus 75. I found a few housings but they were going for silly money (£140 + 2nd hand!).

Thanks for the advice

Thanks everyone for all the advice and encouragement.

I have a copy of Photoshop on my work desktop that the marketing director insisted I have. I don't think I have even opened it in 18months, If I need a photo messing with I send it to one of the design agencies, as that's what I pay them for. I will get IT to install on my work laptop so I can tinker at home.

Rob - I will start practicing top side
e14724 - Thanks no probs. I will play about with photoshop and compare to your's!

Have a look at this thread Colour Correcting Deep Green Water where I wrote about how to get rid of some of the green using Photoshop.
