Risso Dolphins-Red Sea

Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

Hope this works! I've just returned from a Northern Red Sea trip. After 8 years of diving I've just bought and used for the firss time my Fuji f31fd. I had just completed my saftey stop at Ras Mohammed with my buddy Andy, when I popped my head up out of the water (we were in the blue) I saw 3 fins close by. I thought great! Dolphins!! As I rushed to get my camera out of my BCD pocket to try and take some pics - I managed to turn it on and take these. Ha sanyone ever seen Risso's? I spoke to Elke who is a Marine biologist who told me she'd been diving and studing in the Red Sea since 1994 and never seen any Risso's underwater!

Would welcome any feedback

Phil

Yes I've seen Risso dolphins before in a trip to Tiran. One photo of the Risso's, along with other creatures from the Red Sea could be found at Flora and Fauna in the Red Sea

You are very lucky. Risso's dolphins are very large animals. I have only seen one close-up underwater at Darwins Arch in the Galapagos.

Saw a load of them while sailing mid-atlantic, they were very noisy too, lots of squealing.

Yes
Saw some from the boat in the Red Sea in March 2004. Thought they were Beluga whales initially !
