A mate of mine bought a Samsung HD Video Cam, got a good deal £300 ish Jessops wanted £500. And then bought the housing.
On the boat attached the housing to a reel and weight and through it in to test the housing was water tight, all came back AOK.
Put Camera in housing and fastened it up, got kit on and jumped in. Looked at camera to check it was ok and saw water pouring in He hadn't fastened it up right!
Not the best time to flood the camera on a seal dive in the Farnes

He now has one of the new Cannon Cameras, you know the Waterproof, shockproof. Not sure it will be Middyproof but only time will tell. The camera is waterproof to 3m and to 40m with the housing.

Both cameras I flooded were canon s70's with the appropiate housings bought from cameras underwater.

Got the newer powershot s 80 after the last flood and have never had a problem with leaks and have taken some nice pics with it, still prep the camera as I always have without issue with this one, strange.

Do any of you put a little packet of silica gel in the housing to help with condensation?

I would like a quid for every time someone mentions waterproof and housings in the same breath.

I can virtually guarantee that no housing manufacturer (of whatever type, includes watches and dive computers inter alia) uses "waterproof" today. No such thing unless you're a fish.

If a hooman bean can make it, a hooman bean can drown it.

    "Water resistant" yes, "waterproof" no.

I got bored and have taken it apart and I'm fairly sure it's got salt all over the inside, so perhaps it had flooded during the 3 minute dive I was on. If that's the case it was soaking for about 20 hours before being emptied.

As it's not working at all, I'm thinking of soaking it in freshwater then leaving it to dry, any merit in this or is it better off just being binned?

It starts up and the screen is working as I get the Cover open warning displayed perfectly. The lense comes out too when switched on, but it doesn't move when zooming and I can't see the picture on the screen nor can I review pics that are on the XD card. It will sometimes take a picture but it is just stripes of colour.

Told you not to take it out of the housing until it had been rinsed :-) At least with your new one you can switch it off while it is still in the housing. That was just bonkers with the old one.

Has the canon housing arrived? That does manual WB as well so will be a load better.
I'll meet you at the cemetry gates
