Flooded Camera

When rinsing the camera in a bucket on Monday after an actual salty dive, I must've caught the catch or something and I've flooded it

I quickly drained it, opened all possible openings like the usb cover etc and removed the batteries and left it in the sun to dry out. water has definately got inside as there was a drop on the inside of the viewing window.

I tried the batteries in it later that day and it was beeping and lights flashing, but no movement of the lense or the screen ligthing up, so I put it in the airing cupbard to dry off some more. I've just tried it again and it's switching on, the lense comes out as normal, but the screen just flickers black, the zoom doesn't work, and it doesn't take any pics.

Is it likely to just need drying out for longer or is it likely to be FUBAR? Would it help if I took my screwdriver to it and took it apart to let the moisure out?

It's only an Olympus Camedia C-350, so not worth taking into a camera shop who will charge more than it's worth to even look at it.

Already done There's 4 of them.

Pisser of it is, I've been waiting 2 weeks for a housing for my Canon that I use above water and it arrived yesterday, the intention was to fleabay the Olympus with housing once I'd tested the Canon

Arfie,
I flooded an Olympus C4000 a few years ago in Stoney, and I mean a full flood. I did as you have and for the first day or so little response. I then went with work for 3 weeks to Mozambique and left it in the airing cupboard. When I got back I forgot it was there and a couple of weeks later remembered. This time it came back to life, almost in full. All shots were a bit red, but by setting WB it was fine. I thought the flash bulb had blown, but after a month or so it fired again. I had already bought a 7070 by this point.

Problem is, you may have affected it by trying it too soon (I did the same, but was lucky).

So give it time and see what happens. You did it in fresh water, so you may be lucky.

Take out an insurance policy. Go diving with it. Smash it into tiny tiny pieces with your weightbelt.

It was in the box with my other kit and it all went in the bucket to be rinsed bit by bit having had salt on it for a change.
