HWMBO and I have just returned from a mini-break of two days diving off Plymouth, thoroughly enjoyed it as the sea was flat calm and the sun never stopped shining.
Only one problem - he has recently bought a small camera and housing from flea bay of which he is very proud.
On the first days diving he carefully passed it to me and indicated I should snap him, which I did.
Later it was revealed when back on shore that all my photos were of some seaweedy murky water without a diver in sight.
No matter - he very calmly smiled the sort of forced smile you give to an idiot and blamed himself for not showing me the zoom or which knobs to press.
"WE WILL TRY AGAIN" were his words.
This morning after an aptly named deep drift on Chicken Rock ( see avavtar ) he passed the camera to me whilst making video actions by whirling his arms. This threw me a little as I felt I had only been instructed to take a quick still shot but undeterred I gamely took it and tried to look through the tiny window. I could see nothing through my prescription mask and the window so decided to aim the whole camera frontage in his direction and hope it worked out.
He meanwhile insisted on finning away from me so that I could get a whole body shot and he could later examine his trim.
I pressed the little lever on top as the wave action of the SMB jiggled my right arm about - it wasn't as easy as I'd thought.
Back up on boat he praised me for having taken 44 seconds of video and could not wait to play it on his laptop.
Back at the dive centre he rushed to our room to view the footage. After a few silent minutes I heard him exclaim in rather a cross voice that he "was surprised that I'd actually managed to get any of him on it at all "
( It was at this point that I locked myself in the en-suite bathroom )
When eventually coaxed out I was shown an interesting 44 second video - about 30 seconds of clear water, a brief glimpse of a delayed SMB tied to a wing, some lovely air bubbles and a two second finale of his left fin.
Perhaps it's the right time for me to think seriously about learning Morris Dancing.
