    Snorkelling with a camera

I am not allowed to dive for up to a year, so want to have a go at snorkelling with my camera. I will need to keep clear of Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd so they don't try to throw me back in when I am done, but I could do with some advice.

Snorkelling in a drysuit - I don't want to be duck diving so do I need lead?
What about surge - anyone had any experiences of being bashed about by surge?
Photography opportunities - what squishy stuff lives in the really shallow water?
Strobe - I'm guessing that this is overkill.
SMB - How much of a PITA is towing an SMB around?

    All advice gratefully recieved.

I used to have a kiddy-sized ND drysuit when I was a nipper (my dad paid for the zip and ND made the suit out of scraps and leftovers) but as I recall i did have a weightbelt, just to keep my feet underwater.

I suppose you could tie an SMB onto the back of it, then it's out of the way?

I snorkled in the red sea in my drysuit in feb All i had with me + last second dolphin house snorkel). Was hard work!

As soon as i looked down my legs came up. Needed to get rid of more air.

Would try some weights so you can kick better, i was like an empty pop bottle floating, 90% out the water!

Well, I went in to snorkel today - but in my semi-dry rather than my drysuit. The vis was less than we hoped where we were diving, and I got the evil eye from a lot of fulmars who were very interested in what i was doing....

As you can see it is a rather nice day today here in Shetland

And this is the only pic really worth posting - I find it really annoying that I cannot get below stuff as I could with scuba, but hey ho.

    Hiya,

I have been put on some medication which is non-diving friendly so not even a sneaky waffer thiiiin dive will happen

Been up here since 3am this morning and will be here for two months Weather is absolutley stunning, flat calm and bloody hot too. Vis is down a touch at 10m on the Giants Legs to about 6m on the Pionersk.
