For the purposes of tweaking a photo, does cropping mean the same as zooming in on the subject and saving the zoomed in photo?

If you have to think about it for more than thirty seconds, you probably shouldn't get in.

yes
Remember to save it as a different file so you don't lose your original (in the unlikely event you mess it up...)
Cropping means cutting off the edges

Yes or no?!
This is potentially important - it's for a competition being judged this evening and the rule is no cropping!

Cropping is chopping off the outside of a photo, leaving just the interesting part. If you are discarding some of the image, you're cropping.
If you are just enlarging the whole photo, intact, then you should be fine.

God, I should know this!
How do I save amended photos back onto my memory card?

The least you could do is show us the photo!
It's spider crabs, isn't it?
Just to clear the subject up so that everyone knows what's what.
A zoomed photo is just that, a photo on which you employed the zoom of your lens - it has nothing at all to do with "cropping".
A "cropped" photo is an original where you have removed, "cropped", a part of the photo.
Now, my question is "how are the judges going to be aware whether you have cropped a photo, or not?"
Kirstie, I know you're an honourable person and you wouldn't dream of cheating but it is nevertheless a perfectly valid question. Kind of makes me think that the people who made the rules for the competition know diddley squat about the hard facts of life.![]()
