My first underwater photos

Well even though I was lucky if I got 2 metres vis I managed to take some shots with my new Fuji FX700 digital cam and housing.

At first thought I had nothing as all the images were green blurs, but took them into photoshop anyway, reduced the green (max magenta in colour balance for midtones and highlights, up the red for shadows) and the colours just popped out! Ok only the close ups were any good but the vis was terrible.

Check them out in the gallery under Looe weekend here:

Any comments welcome as I know I have a lot to learn about getting good shots.

Cheers

Neil

Hi Neil,

if these were your first efforts then well done. You'll have quickly found that it isn't as easy as it seems to get a nicely composed and in focus shot - especially in the shallows with a surge and doubly so with the shutter-lag on most digicams.

Keep it up. Just one commment tho - get closer and this will improve your pictures no end. When you think you are close enough - get even closer.

Carry on posting your pictures and let us all see how you progress.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks for the possitive feedback, I must admit I really enjoyed taking the pictures and look forward to my next trip. Only pain was the camera, which was clipped to my harness on an extendable lanyard floating up and getting caught under my reg hose! will have to work on a better method of attachment.

Also looking forward to some decent vis so I can take some wider angle shots.

Cheers again

Neil

Excellent pictures ellisn, well done.

I'm not that good myself, but if you try pre-setting the white balance to a higher red to start with, this may give you a better pic to start your touch up from? Also, I tend to put my camera on one of the higher D rings of my jacket as this lets it float above me out of the way, works for me??
