Personally, I always (well, nearly always) use the ship's toilet, but do know some who just stand at the back of the boat and add to the ship's wake!
Hope I'm still welcome on any future dives with you
Regards, and dive safe
Martin
Welcome? - Of course.

Pee over the back of the boat - everyone does it (that's why I always lean on the side rails).

Sorry - that sounded like I had invited myself
I meant if I ever ended up on a dive with you, would I be welcome?, and it seems I would be, so that answers that!
Regards, and dive safe

Pee Valves

Finally I'm going to treat myself to a pee valve. So... balanced or unbalanced? Does it make any difference?

Thumbs down

Oh yes it does make a difference. With unballanced, as I understand it, water can flow the opposite way. Rather undesirable at 40m.

Balanced - even if the bolt falls off, you still won't get that nasty jet of cold water coming in

(Order some spare bolts, by the way)

The downside of balanced is they don't seem to sell a balanced valve with quick connects, but for myself and a few other smug YDers, that's not an issue any more

An unbalanced valve will have 1 non return valve in line with the flow, meaning that you won't get the outside water pressure coming up the tube, but you have surface pressure in the bit of tube from your knob to the non-return, so you will have to "build up" against the external pressure to achieve flow. A balanced design has a t-piece in the line with another non-return which equalises with the pressure in your suit so that the tubing between knob and output non-return is at ambient, not surface pressure.

Some think the additional NRV as another failure point, but at the end of the day all that'll happen is you'll pee in your suit - rather that than rupture something trying to blow-back against the outside world pressure

Perhaps an un-balanced design would work better if you "bled" the system (unfortunate term in the circumstances, but the correct engineering term for the technique) to remove the air from the tubing before entering the water....?

I want to know when a pee valve is going to be invented for women - this is one of my problems with getting a drysuit, as soon as I get in water I feel the need to go lol at least in an emergency in a wetsuit that's not an issue, but what am I supposed to do if that happens when I get a drysuit?

For the time being I think you'll have to live with nappies, or start getting creative with tubing and gaffer tape... (and probably a razor)
